MESSAGE FROM REPUBLIC SERVICES REGARDING TRASH DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

3/27/2020- 3:00 PM:

Effective immediately, Republic Services will NOT be accepting BULK items or YARD BRUSH items during trash pick up.  Please do not set these items on your curbs.

Republic Services will let the Town know when they will once again be accepting these items.  They apologize for the inconvenience, but it’s a necessary measure for them at this time.  You can, however, break brush items down and put it in bags for removal or keep the brush items on property for collection when this is over.

MESSAGE FROM REPUBLIC SERVICES REGARDING TRASH DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

3/24/2020- 9:00 AM:

Please note at this time we are not making any changes to your regular service.

We do need some help from you to communicate with residents the following information:

  • All waste MUST be bagged or containerized to ensure the safety of our employees.
  • As people are isolating at home, the amount of debris going to the curb is increasing and increasingly delaying our routes. If this continues to increase we will have to make adjustments to what can be collected as solid waste is our primary concern for the health and safety of our communities.
  • Recycling contamination increased by 20%  last week. While we are doing everything possible to keep up, our processing costs have significantly increased due to contamination.

In the event we need to make any changes to service we will notify you as soon as possible so that you can communicate with your residents.  Some of those options could be:

  • Suspending clean-ups
  • Suspending brush collection
  • Suspending bulk collection
  • Having to landfill recyclable material – based on contamination or CDC guidelines

Please know that we are all in this together and do not want to limit service, but these are uncharted times and we MUST keep our employees and communities safe.

  2. Recycling

Scheduled trash collection is on Tuesdays and Fridays.Republic Services

Residents are allowed two options for trash collection:

  1. Trash collected in bags that are carried directly to the curb
  2. Trash collected in bags and placed inside a container no larger than 50-gallons

Please note: trash placed inside a container must be bagged (no loose garbage in a bin), trash bag weight cannot exceed 50 pounds each and the container cannot be larger than 50 gallons or Republic will not pick up the refuse.

Brush & Bulk Collection

Brush and Bulk waste will be collected on normal trash days. Brush waste needs to be bundled into 4-foot sections that weigh no more than 50 pounds.

Household Hazardous Waste

Each spring and fall the town holds a Community Clean Up event where residents can dispose of unwanted waste that is not appropriate for regular trash pick up. Services include electronics recycling, document shredding, dumpsters for large items and the Crud Cruiser for hazardous household waste.
